I had some paperbacks books that I’ve been meaning to donate or trade in, so today I tossed the heavy box of old science fiction paperback books into the van, and headed into town. What is my plan? I am hoping I can trade this pile of books, at the used book store, for some preparedness books.
Used Book Stores
I had spied a used-book store on trip through a nearby town, and I was hoping that I could trade some of my old sci-fi paperbacks for some books dealing with camping, survival or first aid.
The proprietor, at The Paper-back Shack, took one look at the sizable box, and gave me $100 store credit, on the spot, without even rooting through the box.
Wow, I have $100 store credit, what shall I buy? After some quick searching, I walked out of the shop with quite a few books.
I was surprised by the sheer number of books, that were exactly what I was looking for.
For a box of books, that was taking up valuable space, I was able to pick up:
- Living Off the Land
- Wood Heat
- The Green Pharmacy
- First Lessons in Bee Keeping
- Keeping BEES
- Scholastic’s The Castaways Survival Guide (got to get my home-schooled daughters in the mix too)
- HERB Bible
- Backyard Composting
- Forest Flora of Canada (close enough to our Flora here in the Eastern USA)
These books have helped to round out my preparedness library, and I put some paperbacks, back into circulation. Used book stores, garage sales, flea markets and thrift stores can be great places to find preparedness books!
